Why Honey and Tea Have Always Belonged Together

Why Honey and Tea Have Always Belonged Together

Many of you enjoy honey and tea together.

Not because honey is sweet, but because it complements tea in a way that feels natural and gentle. It softens without covering, supports without taking over.

Unlike sugar, honey doesn’t just add sweetness. It carries its own character, shaped by flowers, seasons, and place. It's much like tea itself. When used thoughtfully, honey allows the tea’s flavour to remain at the centre.

For some, a small amount of honey softens the edges of a strong tea.
For others, it adds depth and aroma, depending on the flowers it comes from.
And for many, it simply makes a cup of tea feel more complete, without turning it into something else.

At CHA CHA TEA, we choose honey with the same care we choose our teas. That’s why we carry local honey from Shane’s Apiaries in Odessa, just outside Kingston. It’s a family-run apiary known for its thoughtful, high-quality honey.

Currently, we offer two varieties from Shane’s Apiaries:

  • White Honey : light, gentle, and subtle
  • Buckwheat Honey : darker, deeper, and more robust

Both pair beautifully with tea in different ways, depending on what you enjoy. A small spoon is often enough.

Tea doesn’t need much to be enjoyable — just a quiet moment, good leaves, and something that gently supports the experience.

They belong together because tea doesn’t ask for sweetness — just support. Honey and tea belong together because neither one needs to shout to be noticed. ☕️

I enjoy honey with tea. I usually put some (alright a lot haha) in my caffeine free tea in the evening. I find it helps me sleep. We always had honey growing up as my mother kept bees. I did too for awhile then kids and bears came along so I gave it up😁
